It looks great, sounds great, and matches up perfectly against the Nissan Primera mod for the game (see below). The BMW 320I-STW is for those who love the Super Touring era of the BTCC – and rubbing really was racing back then. BMW 320I-STW Image Source: RaceDepartmentĬlassic touring cars certainly need more hype. Using it makes you feel like you’re thrown back into the 1950s and 1960s, and there’s nothing better than throwing a classic F1 car or GT racer around this picturesque circuit. Both the hillclimb and the actual track have been modelled, but the track is our point of focus here. Goodwood Image Source: RaceDepartmentĪnother of the RaceDepartment-hosted mod that deserves a mention is Goodwood. It’s a reminder that in the UK, there are some amazing circuits outside of Silverstone. The racing circuit itself has been done justice, feeling every bit like the real track that thrills us each year in the British Touring Car Championship. This is not an rFactor conversion this is a bespoke track, accurately modelled from the pits to the trackside scenery. Speaking of circuits, the freely available Donington Park on RaceDepartment is one of the most detailed track mods Assetto Corsa has ever seen. Donington Park Image Source: RaceDepartment We just need rolling starts added and a decent Indianapolis Motor Speedway mod. Outside of iRacing, this is probably the best representation of America’s premier open-wheel series. When you add in the Texas Motor Speedway circuit available via VRC, you can have some amazing oval races, or just find those extra hundredths of a second on a hot lap. This car is a different kettle of fish to the 2020 machine: the loss of downforce is obvious, and corners that were flat out now need a lot more care than they did before. In Assetto Corsa, thanks to RSS, you can experience the new cars a year early. VRC have produced a very accurate representation of the car in this Assetto Corsa mod, from the physics to the sounds. The sight of Kimi Räikkönen hurling this thing around Monaco on his qualifying run is something that fans will never forget, and who can forget his remarkable Japanese Grand Prix victory that year? VRC McLaren MP4-20 Image Source: VRC Modding Team This is an absolute must-have addition to your Assetto Corsa game. The mod enhances the overall appearance of the game, adds thunder, rain, day and night transitions, and a general improvement to the shades, shadows, and feel of the game. The incredible Sol mod hosted on RaceDepartment is perhaps one of the main reasons why the game has enjoyed such longevity. Whilst Assetto Corsa is now slightly dated graphically, that hasn’t stopped modders from trying to enhance the game’s appearance. Taking one of these cars around Mugello and Imola is something that you must do if you haven’t already. The incredibly accurate model, a generic 2020 F1 car, looks especially stunning when applied with realistic skins from sites such as RaceDepartment.Ĭoupled with the sounds and physics, RSS have delivered what is perhaps the most enjoyable experience of driving a current generation Formula One car outside of the official F1 game.
